February 21 is International Mother Language Day, an annual observance created by UNESCO in 1999 to bring attention to the critical role of language diversity.

Our local celebration features language activists, writers, and performers offering song, dance, and literary arts that celebrate mother languages from around the world. This event is led by the Indigenous Poetics Lab at the Arts Research Center, in partnership with the DE in Indigenous Language Revitalization.

** Please note the venue changed due to weather concerns. The celebration will begin at 10am in the Arts Research Center, Hearst Field Annex D23.
